Day 5 – A day off in Texas - 22 May 2013

Today’s forecasts looked like the only weather to be found was in the far North East of the US. Not only too far away for us to reach, but even if we could, the mode of the storms would not be favourable for chasing. This was a day to stop, reflect on the last few days, to get out of the car for a while, and to consider our plans for tomorrow.

Indeed tomorrow looked to be a reasonable setup, assuming a host of different factors maintain their forecast states. With this certainly looking like our most promising target we headed north to get within easy reach of the area. We drove a few hours north to the town of Abilene, Texas.

The first motel we found online looked like an absolute bargain, until we were saved by 17 reviews on Trip Advisor pointing out that it was basically a crack house! For a few dollars more we found a well reviewed place called the Country Hearth, which had a clean and quiet swimming pool and a bar with pool tables attached. It was a happy find indeed, and we jumped on the opportunity to soak up some rays and swim some (very short) lengths, before grabbing a couple of beers and playing some pool, then an early night to prepare ourselves for a stormier Thursday.
